Ancient Museum Heraclea Lyncestis
About
With great responsibility and maximum respect for cultural heritage, we undertook a project for the adaptation of the eastern room of the theater building in the archaeological site of Heraclea Lynkestis. This room initially had a useful area of 100㎡, but its height of 9m allowed us to create a gallery space on three levels, increasing the useful area to 210㎡. The choice of cascading galleries on each successive level enables an integrated space for museum exhibits visible from every angle.
The use of light metal construction for the levels and the roof creates a distinct border between the new interventions and the existing space enclosed in stone and brick. The large glazed surfaces of the openings, crafted in wooden frames, along with the use of wood in the interior of the stairs, the railings of the galleries, part of the floors, and the showcases for exhibits, adds additional warmth to the space dominated by natural building materials.
